Actress Nikita Dutta, who recently marked a decade in the entertainment industry, opened up about her early days as an aspiring actor in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama. Reflecting on her journey from beauty pageants to films and television, she candidly recalled the logistical challenges and learning curve that shaped her as an artist.

Sharing how her initial years were filled with trials and small victories, Nikita said, “I used to live in Colaba back in the day, and all the auditions basically happened in Andheri, Aaram Nagar. In my initial days, firstly, I thought my bubble of living in Colaba had busted. I didn’t know what life was really like outside. I had not really crossed the ceiling too many times.”
She added, “When you’re sitting there, you see people from all parts of the country. I used to come back feeling I have a lot more to be thankful about in life. Thirdly, I used to really struggle with my food. So those kinds of logistical issues used to be there — you come back home after a long day and you didn’t even get the part. So I would really club two-three things together and then make my field trip to Andheri.”
Despite the hurdles, Nikita shared that she found stability early on in her career. “I think I have been a little fortunate in that case. In my first year of getting out of Miss India, I had a job in my hand. I was working with Zoom. I knew there was something on the side that was happening for me. I had a monthly source of income coming in, and I knew I didn’t have to do things that didn’t give me the satisfaction of being in front of the camera. I had that security, and it worked for me.”
Quoting something she once heard from Shah Rukh Khan, she added, “I heard Shah Rukh saying in an interview where he said, ‘Your passion is one thing and you should not get so blind — be more realistic. Be philosophical, but first get rich.’”
Nikita Dutta is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi films and television. After participating in Femina Miss India 2012, she made her acting debut with the romantic drama Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014). Dutta made her television debut with Dream Girl (2015) and achieved recognition with Ek Duje Ke Vaaste (2016).
