The Emraan Hashmi–Yami Gautam Dhar starrer Haq has been winning acclaim for its nuanced storytelling and performances, but another aspect that has stood out just as strongly is its styling. The film’s authentic representation of Muslim characters owes much to renowned stylist Ashley Rebello, whose meticulous detailing has been widely appreciated. And among those most impressed was Yami Gautam Dhar herself—so much so that she has already brought him on board for her next project.

Rebello, who styled both Emraan and Yami in the film, recalled how collaborative and trusting the actors were throughout the process. Speaking about his experience with Emraan, he shared, “When I met Emraan for the first time, he told me, ‘Ashley, I haven’t really played a typical Muslim character and portraying that is going to be important and has to be right’. So, I took references and I showed him, which he and also the director loved. And when we did a trial, he really liked all the clothes.”
The actor enjoyed the looks so much that he even wanted to take pieces home. “He just loved the topis, the jackets, kurta pajamas and the chappals because everything was custom made. He even asked my assistants to get the same things,” Ashley added.
But it was his collaboration with Yami Gautam Dhar that became the emotional highlight of his Haq journey. Praising her warmth and professionalism, Ashley said, “She just surrenders and she trusts. And trust is such an important factor. She loved every outfit that I gave her. She loved the dupattas, the kurtas, the shalwars, the sharara. She also loved her wedding outfit. She even said, ‘I wish we could have much, much more of it’.”
Yami also appreciated the smaller, thoughtful details—from shawls and rings to nose pins and toe rings—each of which added depth to her character Shahzia Bano. The feedback didn’t end there. “When people walked out of the theatres, everybody complimented my work, including her mother who said Yami was looking so beautiful and I’ve done such a wonderful job,” Ashley shared.
However, the standout moment came when Yami expressed her desire to continue the partnership professionally. “She’s offered me her next film which I’ve already started with. So, that says a lot about her and that says a lot about the integrity and everything that she carries and what she brings to cinema,” he concluded.
With Yami’s next project already underway, Ashley Rebello’s seamless creative synergy with the actress is set to extend beyond Haq, marking an exciting new chapter for the duo.
