One such similar story is of a celebrated Bollywood couple who recently found themselves being pulled into a legal controversy. The couple that we are talking about is none other than Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra. Recently, they both were drawn into legal trouble after the Mumbai Police issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against them in connection with a ₹60 crore cheating case. This case left the entire film fraternity and their fans shocked, and many people worry that, as both are frequent international travelers and the circular now restricts their movement outside the country, how will they manage?
Details about the case
As per the reports, this case got registered at the Juhu police station on August 14 after businessman Deepak Kothari filed the complaint. He alleged that he was cheated out of nearly Rs 60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal. Since the money exceeded Rs 10 crore, the case was transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police, which later issued the LOC.
Kothari, who is a Juhu resident and director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, an NBFC, revealed that he was introduced to Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty by Rajesh Arya. The couple were directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping and online retail platform. And as per the reports, the duo held 87.6% shares in the firm.
Why was the LOC issued?
The officials revealed that the LOC was issued by EOW because the couple makes frequent international trips, and authorities wanted to ensure that they are available for the investigation. Therefore, LOC helps in preventing individuals from leaving the country while under investigation and alerts immigration and border control agencies to track their movements.
