In a surprising turn of events, an Assam police officer, Sandipan Garg, has been taken into custody in connection with the mysterious death of popular singer Zubeen Garg.
Sandipan Garg, cousin of late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, was arrested last night in connection with the singer’s death. According to details, he was present with Zubeen at the yacht in Singapore, where he died. Garg serves as Superintendent of Police (In-Charge) with the Assam Police Service (APS).
He was taken into custody after a series of investigations by Assam’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He had earlier been questioned alongside several of Zubeen’s associates.

Sandipan Garg will be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court today. The 52-year-old Assamese singer passed away on September 19, 2025, while swimming near an island in Singapore. He had gone out on a yacht outing while he was visiting the country during a cultural festival.
Four persons before Sandipan Garg had earlier been arrested and are currently in the police custody- Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami, Singer Amritprava Mahanta and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta.
Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, one of Zubeen Garg’s band members, had alleged that the singer was poisoned by his manager and the organiser of the event. He also alleged that the accused specifically chose a foreign location to hide up the act.
