Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and philanthropist, passed away on October 9, 2024. He was 86. One such was his relationship with Bollywood actress Simi Garewal. The two shared a close bond and even decided to tie the knot but ultimately didn’t marry due to several reasons.
When Simi Garewal expressed her admiration for Rata Tata
In an interview, Simi gushed over Ratan Tata, calling him a true gentleman. She once said, “Ratan and I go back a long way. He’s perfect, he’s got a sense of humor, is modest, and is the perfect gentleman.”
“Money was never his driving force. He’s not as relaxed in India as he is abroad,” she added. This statement shows the mutual respect and bond they had.
When Tata revealed why he never got married
Simi garnered fame with her show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,’ where she conducted insightful interviews with celebrities. One of her notable guests was Ratan Tata, who revealed the reasons behind his decision to never marry. When Simi asked him what stopped him from getting married, Tata shared various factors, including timing and deep absorption to work. “A whole series of things (stopped me from marrying) – timing, my absorption in work at the time. I came close to getting married sometimes, but it didn’t work out,” he explained.
Simi Garewal’s personal life
Known for her indelible grace and charm, Garewal has led a fascinating life both personally and professionally. She rose to fame in India through her acting career and television show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. She was in a relationship with Maharaja Shatrusalyasinhji of Jamnagar at 17, which lasted three years. She also dated cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. In 1970, she tied the knot with Ravi Mohan of Delhi’s noble Chunnamal family but got divorced in 1979.
Simi was among the first stars to take to social media and express her grief on Tata’s passing. She posted a nostalgic photo of herself with Tata and wrote, “They say you have gone…It’s too hard to bear your loss…too hard…Farewell my friend… #RatanTata.”
