Anjum Sharma, who won praise for his intense portrayal of Sharad Shukla in Amazon Prime Video’s popular crime drama Mirzapur, has returned to the role for the upcoming prequel film. “Just when I thought it was over, they pulled me back in,” Sharma admitted, reflecting on being approached for the project.

The Banaras leg of the shoot, now officially wrapped, took place over several weeks at real locations across the city’s iconic ghats and narrow alleys. This portion reportedly included some of the film’s most pivotal sequences. Fans eagerly followed the shoot, spotting Sharma filming near well-known spots like Assi Ghat and Godowlia, creating a buzz across the city.
Speaking about the experience, Anjum Sharma said, “Every time I return to Banaras for Mirzapur, it feels like stepping back into Sharad’s shoes. The city has its own energy, and it adds a layer to the story that no studio set could ever capture. The schedule was challenging but deeply rewarding, and I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s next.”
With its authentic locations and the return of fan-favorite characters, the Mirzapur prequel film is generating high anticipation among viewers and is expected to deepen the backstory of the original series.
