Deepika Padukone was removed from the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. Scroll down to read the reason.
All the Deepika Padukone fans went into shock when, on Thursday morning, the makers of Kalki 2898 AD, Vyjayanthi Movies, announced that the actress is no longer a part of the film’s sequel. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), they shared a big post explaining why they had taken the call. Now, according to media reports, the real reason for Deepika’s exit was not just scheduling conflicts but also monetary problems.
Why Was Deepika Removed From Kalki 2898 AD?
As per a source quoted by Hindustan Times, the real reason behind the fallout was monetary issues. The source said, “Deepika had signed on for the film for a certain fee, and shot some portions already. Her team, upon feeling that she is irreplaceable after a point, asked for an increase in her fee, which is not justified considering she had already agreed to a certain sum. The makers tried negotiating with her for months, but there was no headway.”
The sequel was originally scheduled to begin shooting at the end of this year. However, we learned that Deepika allocated her dates to filmmaker Atlee’s project instead, after talks with Kalki’s makers fell through. Interestingly, Atlee’s film was also slated to go on floors around the same time.

“Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works,” they added.
