Elli AvrRam, who has appeared in a wide range of films and OTT projects, said that breaking out of the industry’s perception of her was one of the biggest challenges in her early years. She explained that people often assumed they already knew her based solely on her appearance, which led to her being typecast despite the variety of roles she had taken up.

The Swedish actor, last seen in Be Happy, said she had portrayed everything from a Bengali wife to Jessie in Malang, along with several Indian characters in her upcoming projects, yet she was still stereotyped for a long time. “I was repeatedly placed into a specific image, and many believed I wasn’t suitable for certain roles just because of how I looked,” she said. Elli added that there was a common assumption that she could not perform some roles or speak Hindi fluently. “Many thought I couldn’t speak Hindi based on my appearance, but I can communicate in Hindi very well. It was all about perception, and I was stereotyped for years,” she noted.
She shared how she eventually managed to move past those limitations. According to Elli, the industry’s perception of her took time to change, but the shift arrived thanks to the rise of OTT platforms, which opened doors for actors to explore new characters. “OTT helped people see my range. Now, filmmakers and casting directors understand that I can transform myself and take on very different roles,” she said. Elli added that she now feels recognized as the performer she always believed herself to be. “Directors today are more open to exploring different shades with me. That willingness to experiment wasn’t there earlier,” she explained.
Reflecting on her journey, Elli said her filmography shows how much she has evolved. “When you look at the roles I am being cast in now, I genuinely feel I have broken the typecast mould, even if it took time,” she said. However, she believes she still has more to offer. Elli expressed her desire to take on action-driven characters and deeper, more layered roles. “There’s a whole different side of me that I know I can bring to the screen. I’m just waiting for the right opportunities,” she concluded.
