Leave it to Chainsaw Man to blur genres nobody thought could coexist. Director Tatsuya Yoshihara playfully describes the new movie as “a romantic film… or a shark film depending on how you look at it.”

The Reze Arc explores Denji’s emotional awakening through his relationship with Reze, while plunging him into explosive battles featuring sharks, bombs, and typhoons. “It’s a mix of heartfelt tenderness and absurd chaos,” laughs Masato Nakazono.
Yoshihara admits he was fascinated by the contrast. “You have quiet moments of vulnerability followed by scenes that feel like Sharknado on steroids. That unpredictability is Chainsaw Man’s charm.”
The director adds that the tonal balance was crucial. “It’s violent, it’s funny, and it’s deeply romantic. We didn’t want to label it we wanted audiences to feel multiple things at once.”
If early buzz is any indicator, Reze Arc could become anime’s most unusual hybrid a love story told through blood, blades, and beautiful chaos.
