When Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor teamed up for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, the cast didn’t just act like family, they lived like one. In their Bollywood Hungama interview, both stars revealed how shooting felt like joining a Sooraj Barjatya-style clan, especially during their main outdoor schedule at Udaipur’s Raffles Hotel.

EXCLUSIVE: Janhvi Kapoor reveals how Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari set became a real-life Barjatya family; says, “It was borderline unhealthy”
Janhvi shared, “He (Shashank Khaitan) enjoys having a very positive family-like environment on set and I think that’s exactly what it was. The way we started with a few scenes in Bombay, but our main outdoor was in Udaipur, at Raffles hotel. I think we spent more than a month together, totally stuck together. We did everything together—workouts, breakfast, swimming, even between shots when there was a break, we were together. It was borderline unhealthy, like a Sooraj Barjatya family.”
The stars also highlighted how their director, Shashank Khaitan, orchestrated this togetherness, “Shashank wanted that very honestly… he loves the whole entire unit together. He wanted Rohit, Sanya, me, Manish, Akshay, Malika-everyone—to spend time together to get to know each other, because a big part of the film takes place there and a lot of the humour plays off each other.”
Even off camera, the camaraderie overflowed into plenty of memorable moments,
“BTS ka alag film ban sakta hai.” (A whole separate film could be made from our behind-the-scenes shenanigans.) On set, the family spirit not only enriched their performances but also their personal growth, building bonds that transcend cinema.
