Shilpa Shirodkar, a recognized icon of the 1990s, has recently made a remarkable return to Bollywood after a long hiatus, and she is already generating buzz with her role in the upcoming film Jatadhara. Reflecting on her journey back to cinema, she shared some insightful comments about the physical and emotional challenges she faced.

EXCLUSIVE: Shilpa Shirodkar reflects on her long-awaited comeback and the challenges of returning to films after 25 years; says, “I feel I’m in the best time of making movies”
Shilpa opened up about her comeback, saying, “After Gajami was my last. So after that till now I’ve not done a film in the middle. It’s been 25 years. I just did television then I did Big Boss and now I’m doing this. That’s amazing,” she expressed, highlighting her excitement at returning to the big screen after so many years.
Shilpa observed the evolution of the industry, saying, “Today cinema has changed, writing has changed, there is work for everyone across borders, across age groups, across genders… For me, I feel I’m in the best time of making movies or working in this entertainment industry. Because there’s work for everyone, it’s how you perceive it.”
Reflecting on her admiration for Sonakshi’s dedication she said, “I’ve only learned from her. Sitting tight, ready, coming on the set, and not throwing a tantrum is something I think — see, I grew up with people who were very, very senior in my time. And for me, I carried that principle of being totally professional. And when I saw her she’s much younger than me she started off when I was not even working actually. And to see her dedication, I remember. So there was this day where she, obviously as she said, took so long to get ready and all, and the director did one or two shots and then after a couple of hours he said pack up. So she actually went to him and said, ‘Sir, mai 3 ghante leti hu taiyaar hone ke liye, thoda aur kaam karwa lo nah.’ She just wasn’t one of those who said, “I’m fed up of this. I don’t want to go on the harness.” She used to be sitting with all those harness claws on the chair like that and… nothing. There was never a moment where she said, ‘abhi bas ho gaya mujhe ghar jaana hai, mai thak gai hu, nothing.’ In fact, she was saying, ‘Kaam karwa lo, do the work.” So that is her.”
With Jatadhara scheduled for release on November 7, 2025, both actresses have demonstrated professionalism and dedication. Shilpa’s reflections reveal her resilience and passion for her craft, while Sonakshi’s attitude embodies her commitment to delivering authentic performances despite challenging roles. Their camaraderie and work ethic underscore the evolving landscape of Indian cinema, blending tradition with modern filmmaking techniques.
