In a historic milestone, actor Sunny Deol scripted a new chapter on Tuesday with his latest action-packed drama, Gadar 2, surging into the coveted 400 crore club at the box office. This exclusive achievement had previously been unlocked solely by the superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Industry watcher Sacnilk reported that Gadar 2 notched an impressive 11.50 crore on its 12th day, pushing its cumulative earnings to an impressive 400.10 crore.
The movie’s Tuesday earnings showcased a marginal dip of only 10-12 percent from its collections on the second Monday, signifying an impressive retention of audience interest. Gadar 2 is poised to maintain its robust trajectory through the week, with expectations of another surge over the upcoming weekend. However, the entry of Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2, set to release this Friday, might introduce a competitive dynamic.
The journey for Gadar 2 is projected to transcend the 500 crore milestone over its lifetime run, setting its sights on surpassing Pathaan’s record as the highest-grossing Bollywood film, standing at a staggering 524 crore (Hindi language collections only).
Can Gadar 2 Overtake Pathaan’s Record?
According to Sacnilk’s analysis, Gadar 2 faces an uphill battle to surpass Pathaan’s benchmark, particularly due to the “unprecedented business” that Shah Rukh Khan’s film amassed within its first five days. While Gadar 2 garnered 229 crore during its initial five days, Pathaan secured 271 crore. Adding to this, Pathaan’s earnings, including dubbed versions, have reached an impressive 543 crore.
Even if Gadar 2 falls short of claiming the all-time record set by Yash Raj Film’s spy actioner, its financial performance remains noteworthy. Notably, Gadar 2 confronted box office competition from Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer, whereas Pathaan enjoyed a solo release.
A Sequel Worth the Wait
Continuing the legacy of 2001 hit “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” Gadar 2 stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their iconic roles from the original. Directed by Anil Sharma, who also helmed the blockbuster’s first installment, the sequel has solidified its place in cinematic history.
