War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, continues its weak streak at the box office. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji and backed by Yash Raj Films, the spy thriller was released on August 14 and is yet to touch the Rs 250 crore mark in India. Despite a powerful opening weekend, the film’s numbers have dipped in its second and third week.

According to early estimates by sacnilk.com, on its sixteenth day, the film collected Rs 0.65 crore, which takes it overall collection to Rs 231.90 crore.
The film had a promising start, closing its first week with an estimated Rs 204.25 crore net in India. However, the earnings fell dramatically in its second week, due to film’s mixed reactions as well as its major box office clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie and the phenomenal reception of Mahavatar Narsimha.

Reports claim that YRF has put hold on its ambitious plan to make a standalone film centered on Jr NTR’s character, Agent Vikram, following the performance of War 2. According to Bollywood Hungama, a source stated, “YRF had big plans to capitalise on Jr NTR’s Pan India success and develop a spin-off of the character of Agent Vikram. The creative team was already working on a single picture, but the failure of War 2 has stopped the entire process.”
War 2 is part of the YRF Spy Universe, which also includes Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger franchise. Following Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s film, all eyes are on YRF’s next spy saga Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol in the lead roles.
