The actor reflects on his journey from being sidelined during Koi Mil Gaya promotions to making a powerful return with Aryan Khan’s web series.
Rajat Bedi, who recently impressed audiences with his role as Jarj Saxena in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut web series The Bads of Bollywood, is enjoying a wave of newfound popularity. Fans have often commented, “I’ve seen him somewhere before,” and the connection isn’t coincidental. The character of Jarj Saxena hints at Bedi’s negative role in the blockbuster film Koi Mil Gaya.
Speaking at the Khajuraho International Film Festival (KIFF), Bedi reflected on being sidelined during the film’s promotions. “Koi Mil Gaya became a blockbuster, and the promotion was done only with Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, and Rakesh Roshan. I wasn’t included in the promotions, but even today, people recognise me and love me for that role,” he revealed.
Did he hold grudges against Rakesh Roshan?
Despite being excluded, Bedi clarified he holds no resentment. “I can’t say he did anything wrong. Working with Rakesh ji was an amazing experience. He’s one of the finest directors I’ve worked with,” he said. His comments underline a professional maturity, focusing on gratitude rather than past disappointments.
How OTT projects revived his career
The actor’s career has seen a resurgence thanks to Aryan Khan’s web series and another upcoming OTT project. “This is a big blessing for actors because there’s a lot of work happening on OTT platforms, giving technicians and artists a chance to showcase their talent,” Bedi said.
He expressed his excitement about his return to Bollywood after a 16-year gap. “You’ll see me back in Bollywood after 16 years. This is bigger than any single film, like Bollywood’s daddy is back. It’s a grand comeback. Both projects are on a very large scale, and I consider myself lucky because my previous work in films brought me these opportunities,” he added.
Bedi also confirmed a second season of The Bads of Bollywood. The show currently stars Lakshya, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, and Sahar Bamba in lead roles. It is trending at number one on Netflix India’s top 10 list, signalling a strong reception from audiences.
A legacy in cinema
Coming from a lineage of cinematic talent, Rajat Bedi is the son of filmmaker Narendra Bedi, known for hits like Jawani Diwani, Bandhan, Mahachor, and Benam. He is also the grandson of acclaimed writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, recognised for classics like Abhimaan, Anupama, and Satyakam by Rishikesh Mukherjee. This heritage, combined with his recent work, has set the stage for a successful second innings in his career.
