Although Gujarat, like the majority of India, has a history that dates back to the Stone Age, I found it fascinating that during the 16th through the 19th centuries, it was a part of the Mughal Empire, the Maratha Empire, and then was under the control of colonial powers before, of course, India attained its independence. A journey that was so varied left beautiful imprints on the landscape, and the resulting multiculturalism serves as the motivating inspiration for my Fall/Winter 23–24 collection, BARODA.” J.J. Valaya
