Karan Johar, who is known for his impeccable filmmaking, extravagant fashion, and launching many star kids in Bollywood, is also widely known for his show, Koffee With Karan. The show invites A-listers of Bollywood, where secrets are spilt and controversy is brewed in every episode. But among the many celebrities who have appeared on the show, one major star who has never taken a sip from Karan Johar’s infamous coffee mug is Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. Despite his wife and celebrated actor Anushka Sharma appearing on the show multiple times, Karan recently revealed the real reason why Virat has never been invited.
Karan Johar reveals why Virat Kohli has never appeared on Koffee With Karan
In a candid chat on Sania Mirza’s podcast, Karan Johar spoke about some of the most memorable and the most regrettable moments of his show. Speaking about the celebrities he wishes to invite but couldn’t, Karan Johar shared that while Ranbir Kapoor has been a recurring invitee in the past, he’s been saying no for the last three seasons. He said, “He’s come before, but for the last three seasons, he’s said no.”
When Sania then asked about someone who has never made it to the Koffee couch, Karan took Virat’s name when and admitted that he has never actually invited Virat to the show, despite fans’ curiosity.
The Hardik-KL Rahul Backlash Changed Everything
Revealing the reason why he never invited Virat, Karan said, “I have never asked Virat. And now, I am not asking any cricketers after what happened with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. There are many who I just felt wouldn’t come, so I never asked them in the first place.”
Referring to the infamous 2019 episode, when cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared on Koffee With Karan and sparked massive backlash on social media for their sexist and disrespectful remarks about women, Karan said that he knew who would and wouldn’t appear on his show. After Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared on the show, a major controversy started doing the rounds, which even led to a temporary suspension for both players by the BCCI.
