Bollywood actress Divya Dutta recently interacted with a group of children where she spoke about handling pressure, mental health, and staying grounded in today’s competitive world. Known for her emotional depth on screen, Divya was at ease while sharing personal experiences and advice that resonated deeply with her young audience.
She started by talking about her journey into acting, recalling how she had decided very early in life that she wanted to be an actress. “I had always known I wanted to be an actress. I just wanted to perform well and win people’s hearts through my work,” she said, smiling warmly.
To make the session lighter, she asked the children, “Have you watched Veer-Zaara? Please do, it’s one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most beautiful films.”
What did she reveal about her role in Veer-Zaara?
Talking about her experience in Veer-Zaara, Divya shared that while she did get to be part of the film, her role wasn’t what she had imagined. “I wanted to be the heroine, to dance and sing, and share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan. But in Veer-Zaara, my role was different. I wasn’t opposite Shah Rukh, nor was I in the spotlight. I told my mother that I didn’t get what I had wished for,” she said.
Her mother’s response, however, left a lasting impact on her. “My mother told me, whatever work you get, do it with all your heart. That’s your opportunity. Add something that is truly yours, that will become your ‘X factor’,” Divya recalled fondly.
How did her mother’s advice change her perspective?
Divya said she took her mother’s words seriously. “I followed what my mother said. I put my heart and soul into that role and made it my own. I poured truth and emotion into every scene. That performance gave me recognition,” she shared.
It was through that experience that she learned one of life’s most valuable lessons: “Do every job so well that it stays with people. Even if it’s not what you wanted, make it something unforgettable.”
She urged the children to remember that disappointments are part of every journey. “When you don’t get what you wanted, don’t complain, do it so well that the world notices you,” Divya advised.
What did she say about social media and today’s pressure on kids?
The actress also addressed how today’s generation faces increasing stress from academics, competition, and social media. “These pressures exhaust children from within,” she said empathetically. “But if you’re struggling, talk about it. Speaking up is not a weakness, it’s a sign of courage.”
She ended her interaction on an encouraging note: “Don’t lose yourself while chasing dreams. Everyone has their own pace, their own shine. Recognise it and live it wholeheartedly.”
