Despite being two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Tabu have never shared screen space in a full-length film. Fans have long hoped to see the duo together, given SRK’s undeniable chemistry with his co-stars. While they briefly appeared together in Saathiya (2002), shared a short moment in the song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ from Om Shanti Om (2007), and Tabu made a cameo in Main Hoon Na (2004), a proper collaboration has yet to happen.
Tabu opens up on why she and Shah Rukh Khan haven’t done a full film together: “I can only say yes or no”
On Tabu’s 54th birthday, just two days after Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th, it’s a good moment to revisit why fans are still waiting for a full-fledged SRK-Tabu film.
In an interview with Galatta India last year, Tabu was asked about the reason behind this. She explained, “I am not a producer, I am not a director, I am not a scriptwriter. I really am not dictating who Shah Rukh Khan works with or which films are going to be made or offered to me. I can only say yes or no to what is offered.” She added, “I know which films I have refused, and I am sure he has also refused a few. It’s not that our paths never crossed. But I must respect the fact that many people want to see me and Shah Rukh together, and I don’t want to discount that.”
While a collaboration has not yet happened, there’s always hope for the future. Currently, Shah Rukh Khan is busy shooting for Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film King, featuring his daughter Suhana Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone. Tabu, meanwhile, will next be seen in Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla.
