During his visit to the G20 Summit in New Delhi, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murthy, took time to offer prayers at the Akshardham Temple in the national capital early Sunday morning. As a practicing Hindu, Sunak participated in rituals and sought blessings during this visit to the temple, which spans an impressive 100 acres.
Before joining other world leaders in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, Sunak and his wife made their way to the temple at 6:45 a.m. During their visit, they received an overview of the Akshardham Temple and its significance.
Sunak expressed his delight, stating, “My wife and I were delighted to visit Swaminarayan Akshardham for darshan and puja this morning. We were amazed and awed by the beauty of this temple and its universal message of peace, harmony, and becoming a better human being. This is not only a place of worship, but a landmark that also portrays India’s values, culture, and contributions to the world.”
He further emphasized the positive contributions of the British Indian community in Britain, highlighting the shared values and culture between the two nations.
Additionally, Sunak announced the forthcoming inauguration of another Akshardham temple in Robbinsville, USA.
On the preceding day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rishi Sunak held discussions on the progress of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. They also exchanged views on global and regional matters of significance and mutual interest.
