A fresh name is making waves in Bihar’s 2025 election cycle, Divya Gautam, who has been nominated by the INDIA alliance to contest from the Digha seat in Patna. Her candidacy blends activism, academia, and a surprising connection to Bollywood.
Who is Divya Gautam?
Divya Gautam is the cousin of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but she’s clear about not wanting to ride on that legacy. A seasoned theatre artist and former AISA (All India Students’ Association) leader, she has a strong background in journalism and mass communication. Before entering electoral politics, she worked as an assistant professor and also served in the state’s food & consumer protection department. After her nomination, she said in a interview, “I have never used his name in my politics… I don’t want to color his name the way others may try to.”
Academically, she holds both bachelor’s and post‑graduate degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication from Patna College / Patna University. She has also worked as an assistant professor at Patna Women’s College. In addition, she served in a government role as a supply inspector for Bihar’s Food & Consumer Protection Department.
